“Steve Fisher has led an extraordinary life. His story is filled with rock and roll, wild times, and deeply emotional turning points, all pinned to the second half of the 20th century. Every Boomer should read this book. Anyone who wants to understand a Boomer should read it too.”

“Steve Fisher is a remarkable author. His book, American Boomer, has enriched my understanding of the Boomer generation better than any other source, and I think it should be required reading for anyone who’s curious about what makes boomers so special. The story really pulls you in because his writing is so clear and concise. Each chapter could almost stand alone, but the author has done a masterful job of weaving it all together. It’s a great read about an incredibly distinct time in American history. I couldn’t recommend it more.”

“A very cool read. I totally recommend this book. No punches pulled, the writer takes an honest and droll look at his life in a way that most of us (of a certain age!) can identify with.”

“This is an enjoyable read about one guy’s life as a true American Boomer. It’s an easy read, is well-written, and the chapters are both funny and sentimental. If you’re looking for a Boomer memoir, I would recommend this one.”

“I loved American Boomer. The writing is clear and fluid. We learn about Steve Fisher’s time as a musician, a self-taught guitarist. If a movie was made about his life, the soundtrack would have a lot of Chuck Berry and Buddy Holly, even some of his own songs like Canada. Steve’s first book was a humorous cat book, The World Is Your Litter Box. There is plenty of humor in American Boomer. His second book shows once again what a talented writer Steve really is. He has tough times and fun times. We learn about his adventures, like a stint in the Army, but it’s his time as a radio DJ that shows the character of this man This is a story of resilience. So, for a breezy, interesting read, I recommend American Boomer.”

“If you’re a Boomer, you’ll definitely relate and probably fondly remember some things from your past that you haven’t thought about in years. And younger generations who’ve heard so much about ‘the 60s’ will enjoy the trip… yeah, it really was a time! Highly recommended!”

“This is an extremely honest memoir of the author’s life and his pursuit of a career in music, broadcasting, writing and more. It’s a hard look at the less glamorous side of ‘show business.’ We see memoirs of superstars more often, but how many are there of those, really? There are many, many more people who work in music and media who do not live a glamorous lifestyle and sometimes scrape by in order to do what they love. These stories are definitely worth reading too, and even more so.

One of my favorite parts of Steve’s story is when he realized he’d basically given up on love and a family to pursue this business for so many years. He is also brutally honest about his choices and mistakes, sometimes to the point where I said, ‘TMI, Steve, TMI.’ But the honesty is so refreshing.”

“Even though I was born later in the ‘60s, I still could relate to American Boomer. Interesting to get one man’s take growing up during that time. So much was going on with civil rights, the cold war, Kennedy, etc. Steve Fisher takes you on his life journey through the Boomer era, from his wild days to settling down. I found this book to be an entertaining read.”

“At first, I bought this book as a gift for a friend’s significant birthday, and I also bought a copy for myself. What I found is a delightful collection of remembrances that made me wish I had known Steve back in those days. What happened as I was reading, and after I had finished, memories of my youth would randomly come into my mind as similar vignettes. Who doesn’t need some walks down memory lane?

American Boomer has many fun, happy and serious memories that are so relatable. I was interested to learn about the author's life and what makes him tick because while reading his first book (The World Is Your Litter Box), I took to it immediately and thought it was the funniest book I ever read! Kudos to Steve- he's a great writer!”

“As each new chapter builds on the last, I soon asked myself, where is this guy’s life going? No spoilers here but this memoir has it all; elation, adventure, disappointment, yearning, naivete, consolation and celebration. This memoir reads like a thriller and ultimately left me yearning for more. Steve, it's time to get working on Boomer Part 2. You have NOT gotten old. Thank you for sharing so much of yourself, warts and all. I am better off for having read it.”

“Like Bill Bryson only with more music and more marijuana.”

“This is a joyous read for anyone interested in life stories… like when you happen to sit by someone on a plane and the formerly dreaded long hours now magically melt away as they recount stories that are both unique and yet have echoes of your own experiences intertwined. It’s this sharing that shows us we all have stories to tell, and each of us are wholly unique and have unique experiences others find amazing and even incredulous. American Boomer is a steller recounting of Steve Fisher’s formative years and beyond, with each chapter taking you on ‘another ride’ of his life with many many surprise twists and turns. Very highly recommended and thoroughly enjoyable. Wish more books were like this one. Had many laugh-out-loud and “holy crap” moments that made the pages fly by.”
